Thai Massage

Traditional Thai massage is an ancient healing art, taught and practiced in Thailand for 2500 years. Influenced by Ayurvedic/yogic medicine and Buddhism, Thai massage has a unique character that is both relaxing and invigorating. It is a combination of passive yoga stretching, acupressure, reflexology, energy work, and meditation. The journey, just as in Yoga, is in the moment, the place relaxation occurs.

The Thai practitioner uses her thumb, palm, elbow, knee, and foot to create various pressure-holds that allow for releasing tensions throughout the body. The Thais often refer to their healing art as “energy medicine”. It has been described as "Lazy Man's Yoga" but it goes further than passive yoga, with its profound effect that deeply opens, relaxes and revitalizes the entire body. Thai massage is unmatched in its ability to open joints and increase range of motion and flexibility.

Thai Massage is traditionally performed with the receiver lying on a floor mat, wearing loose, comfortable clothing. The receiver moves into different positions: face up, side-lying, face down and seated as suggested by the therapist. This gives the therapist leverage and the ability to use their body very effectively. Therapists are trained to respect each person’s own level of flexibility. This technique benefit’s the limber, as well as the not-so-limber, by stretching everyone to his or her own natural limits. For those of you saying that you have the most inflexible body, good news! Thai massage is especially for you. It is a very thorough treatment, incorporating the entire body, and lasting 90 minutes or longer.

The work is very rhythmical and meditative, enabling both the client and practitioner to voyage together into deeper realms of consciousness and tranquility. The focus is on balance and integrating the body, mind and spirit.
